Our Father

I am your Father-God. Listen to Me! Learn what it means to be a child of the everlasting King. Your richest duty is devotion to Me. This duty is such a joyous privilege that it feels like a luxury. You tend to feel guilty about pushing back the boundaries of your life to make space for time alone with Me. The world is waiting to squeeze you into its mold and to crowd out time devoted to Me. The ways of the world have also warped your conscience, which punishes you for doing the very thing that pleases Me most: seeking My Face. Listen to Me above the clamor of voices trying to distract you. Ask My Spirit to control your mind, for He and I work in perfect harmony. Be still and attentive in My Presence. You are on holy ground.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
—Isaiah 9:6

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
—Zechariah 9:9 nkjv

For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
—Romans 8:15–16

“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
—Exodus 3:5

The Verdict Is In...

Watch: http://vimeo.com/70303281

But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love. And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives. (Jude 1:20-23 NLT)

Come, Sit.

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made….”Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42 (NIV)

Canine trainers say that “sit” is the most important command a dog needs to learn.  It is a reminder that the owner is in charge of things and not the dog.  Trainers tell their puppies to sit before they feed them, play and go out the door.  This teaches the growing dog that he must respond to his master and that his own desires are simply not the most important thing in his life.  Not to compare us to dogs, but there is a spiritual principle we can learn from the dog trainer.  Sitting still with the Master requires discipline.  It reminds us that God is in charge and as a growing Christian, the time we sit with the Master is of most importance.  It is in the sitting that our agendas are exchanged for His agendas and we walk away with peace and joy to accomplish all of our daily tasks.  God is not looking for perfect, workaholic, stressed out people like Martha.  He wants some Mary’s.  Choose which is better.  It will make you more productive and effective.

Prayer: Lord, I love you. I thank you that I don’t have to do it all or get it all perfect for you to love me.  Remind me when I get overwhelmed to pause and sit at your feet.  As I listen, I will watch you give me peace and joy to know what to let go of, what can wait and what is important to you, me and the people in my life you call me to serve.  I thank you for teaching me the principle of sitting with you first, even if it is just for a few minutes, it makes me more effective and productive.  In Jesus Name!  Amen.

The Gospel is NOT SPECULATION...IT IS FACT

Then Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. “If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you.” John 8:31-32

“The gospel is not speculation but fact. It is truth because it is the record of a Person who is the Truth.” – Alexander MacLaren

The truth pill can be hard to swallow at times. The Bible is full of truth. The Christians Jesus is talking to are the ones who attend church, but their faith is not important to them.  Jesus is not the most important person in their lives. They agree with what Jesus taught but they do not allow this to affect their attitudes or their behavior in their daily lives.  Jesus required them to not only read the truth but they had to obey the truth.
When people follow Jesus, they will know the truth because Jesus is the truth. The truth frees us from the results of sins, death and shows us how to have eternal life with God. The truth shows us the ways we deceive ourselves, how other people deceive us and how the devil deceives us.
The freedom Jesus gives us is real freedom. It is not the freedom to do what we want, but the freedom to serve God. Then and only then, we can become the kind of people that God created us to be.
